An Innovative approach to supporting youth
Connect 2 Youth is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit organization that will use a transparent and accountable process to facilitate DIRECT support and create opportunities for achieving youth.
Young achievers profiled on C2Y receive supplemental resources tailored to their specific individual needs related to college and career-readiness. C2Y serves as a mutually exclusive option and alternative to the social justice organizations and programs whose core competencies are directed towards the ‘at-risk’ category of students.
C2Y will identify, target and profile public-school students in Oakland who are highly motivated and have demonstrated high performance. C2Y will provide this ignored, under-served high potential segment of students with supplemental education, mentoring and resources aligned with the demands of a 21st century economy.
C2Y is inspired by the 3 topics below.

Reform: why we can't wait
Our education system needs to keep pace with the rapidly changing world young people will enter after graduation, and to do that it needs a major overhaul.
Reform is especially critical to our nation’s urban environments like Oakland (and urban environments across the nation) that are facing additional challenges: low graduation rate, low college attendance, drop out, security-discipline issues.
Unfortunately, there are barriers to reform.

Social Justice and the Void
For various reasons there are overwhelming challenges facing our school districts. The approach to remedy or support young people leans heavily on a social science orientation. A great deal of energy is deficit/dysfunction focused. As a result a large share of resources go mainly towards the at-risk category of young people: dropouts, remediation, those with a history in the juvenile system, etc.
As a result there is a void.

Beyond marketing the problem 21st Century demands
C2Y is inspired by the movement away from the “century long Freud-inspired focus on deficits and dysfunction, towards an increasing reliance on positive psychology”.
As a result we don’t tout a social justice mission; tracking the success of such a vague and broad mission is too difficult to quantify.
We seek to inspire a culture of opportunity by focusing our efforts on eager students; not society at large. We believe the development of individual students doesn't have to wait for the next social revolution; many are ready now and they deserve our support.
